Therefore, she joined a group of women who loved Jesus and refused to worship pagan gods. Their faith made them targets, but they stayed true.
Persecution in Corinth: Standing Firm (258)
In 258, during Emperor Valerian’s reign, Christians were hunted. Galina, along with Leonidas and other women like Charissa, Nike, and Theodora, was arrested in Corinth. The governor, Venousto, tried to force them to deny Christ. However, Saint Galina and her companions refused. For example, they boldly proclaimed their love for Jesus, even facing torture. Their courage showed their deep trust in God.
The Miracle at Sea: A Divine Sign (258)
Because they would not abandon their faith, the authorities threw Galina and her group into the sea to drown. But a miracle happened: they didn’t sink. Instead, they walked on the water, singing hymns to God. This amazed everyone, showing God’s power. Sadly, their persecutors caught up in a ship, tied stones around their necks, and drowned them in the Corinthian Gulf. Thus, Saint Galina became a martyr.

Saint Galina’s sacrifice is celebrated on April 16 in the Orthodox Church, though some sources note April 29. Her icon, often showing her in red robes, is a powerful symbol. For instance, the Church of Saint Galina in Khimki, Russia, holds a revered icon that many visit for prayer. Her story reminds us to stay strong in faith, no matter the cost. Consequently, she is seen as a protector for believers facing hardship.
